What is the best way to substitute coffee?
Most of my clients are coffee addicts, but they won’t admit it! Many attribute their high energy levels to coffee, which does have an effect on our nervous system, however in the long run, at a cost of harming our livers. Some cannot even perceive the thought of starting their day without a cup of coffee. “Are you crazy? If I don’t drink coffee in the morning, I feel like a zombie the whole day!”.
Are you ready for a moment of truth? Coffee is not a necessity, a bad habit, that’s all it is! Habits are hard to break but not impossible.
Working with clients, I never recommend making drastic, radical changes, because in a sense, radical acts are setting you up for failure. Instead I prefer slow and gradual changes.
Listen to your body and feel if you are ready for a change.
What you should be striving for is drinking Green Smoothie in the morning, not a coffee. during “transition time” allow yourself some time to break the habit while feeling like you are getting somewhere and not completely failing every single day.
Here is a great recipe for that “transition period” while going off of coffee:
Maca Hot Chocolate
- 2 and ½ cups nut milk (coconut or almond)
- 4 tablespoons raw cacao powder
- 1 tablespoon of maca powder
- 2 dates pitted
- Pinch of salt
- Combine all ingredients in blender and blend until smooth
- Place ingredients in a small sauce pan and slowly warm to temperature desired
